The Linguistics Department's Open House at A&S Program Exploration Days!

March 12, 2025 by Natasha Vujicic

Last week, the department hosted the Linguistics Open House as part of the Arts & Sciences Program Exploration Days! Undergraduate Program Assistant Kai Herzog-Hara and Prof. Suzi Lima led the discussion, talking about the specialist, major, and minor programs, and their requirements. Prospective students learned about courses offered, program declaration, and how to get in contact for support with program planning. Then, Prof. Naomi Nagy (Department Chair), Profs. Suzi Lima, Keir Moulton, Nathan Sanders, and Pocholo Umbal shared their research interests and ongoing research projects, as well as discussed opportunities for student involvement. Afterwards, attendees split up to eat snacks, mix and mingle with students, SLUGS executives, and faculty, and receive UofT linguistics tote bags!

Later that week, all Faculty of Arts and Science students were invited to join departments at the Program Exploration Days. The Linguistics Department has a booth with lots of treats, trivia, and tote bags. It was a great opportunity to speak with students who were interested in adding a Linguistics Minor/Major/Specialist ahead of undergraduate program selection this March. Undergraduate Program Assistant Kai Herzog-Hara and SLUGS volunteers Alyssa Vorobey and Annika Nilson talked to over 100 prospective students, who we hope to see in our classes next year!

Thank you to everyone that helped make this event possible, and to the attendees for sharing their interest in the Linguistics Program.
